KCD Church Planting invites you to one more peer-to-peer learning meal during District Assembly on Wednesday July 20th at noon. Dr. Mario Zani will be sharing his personal experience and lessons learned while planting several churches in the Kansas City District, Oregón-Pacífico District and Sudamerica Region. This meal will be held at the Cunningham Center Student room #326 (follow the signs). We will be serving burritos (option of stake or carnitas, first come first served) from Chipotle and different options of drinks. We are looking forward to see you there. El ministerio de Plantación de Iglesias del Distrito Kansas City invita a una comida de aprendizaje entre pares durante la Asamblea de Distrito, el miércoles 20 de julio al mediodía. El Dr. Mario Zani compartirá su experiencia y las lecciones aprendidas durante la plantación de varias iglesias en el Distrito de Kansas City, el Distrito de Oregón-Pacífico y la Región de Sudamérica. About Dr. Mario Zani
In 1971, Mario (23 years old) and Ana (22 years old) were invited to be pastors in the Church of the Nazarene in Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina. At the time, it was the southernmost church in the world in the entire denomination. God gave them a fruitful ministry, with many converts, families transformed by the grace of the Lord, and several young people called to the ministry. In 1976, Mario and Ana were both ordained as minister of the gospel. That same year, the Zani family, with two children -Fabiana and Christian- moved to the United States to continue their ministerial studies, serve in former Nazarene Publishing House, plant the Hispanic work at College Church, in Olathe, KS, and complete ten years of preparation that included a bachelor's degree in Christian Education for Ana; and bachelor's, master's of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Nazarene Theological Seminary for Mario. In 1986, the Zani family, then three children (added Louis, born in Olathe, KS), was sent to the mission field to serve in and from Guatemala, in what was then the Mexico-Central America Region. There they served as missionaries, educators, coordinators of theological education for the entire region, and in women's ministry. In 1992, Mario was elected to serve as regional director. One of the outstanding emphases of his ministry was the planting of many new churches and districts.
After 13 years of living in Guatemala, Mario and Ana returned to Kansas. Mario to serve as a professor at the Nazarene Theological Seminary (school of missions) and Ana, as co-pastors of the First Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, KS. Before taking this last church as copastors, they planted the Hispanic work in the Church of the Nazarene, in Central Lenexa. The central emphasis in church planting was the preparation of leaders, including the calling and preparation of pastors.
Mario and Ana, once again, were invited to serve as missionaries. This time, in Argentina and Chile. They were there almost four years, when they received the invitation to coordinate the Hispanic work in the Oregon-Pacific District. They accepted and saw, together with an excellent group of leaders, how the Hispanic work emerged with a ministerial school, and twenty congregations and churches that were planted until the time of their retirement seven years later.
Since 2014 and for six years, already retired, Mario and Ana -after returning to Kansas- pastored the Hispanic congregation of Lenexa Central, leaving pastors David and Tabita González in charge of that work since August 2020. During these years and under the direction of Dr. Sam Barber, senior pastor of Lenexa Central, Mario coordinated the beginning of the Brazilian and African work. Also, Mario served as “Faculty Advisor” in the doctoral program of Nazarene Theological Seminary, in registration and as a teacher in online theological education (ENTE), in church planting trainings (as Senior Master Trainer of the DCPI), and as multicultural literature coordinator for the US-Canada Region. At the present time, Mario and Perla continue translating, editing and teaching. Above all, and in these years, they enjoy their two grandchildren who live in the same city and with whom they have a lot of interaction.
In the words of Ana and Mario: “These are the last years of our lives. We have enjoyed this adventurous journey of faith in the Lord. We will continue investing the experiences, knowledge and taking advantage of the opportunities that God wants to give us to serve him in the ways that he wants. The Lord who called us, has taken care of us and allows us to continue ministering in this time. To His glory!”

En 1971, Mario (23 años) y Ana (22 años) fueron invitados a ser pastores en la Iglesia del Nazareno en Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina. En ese entonces, era la iglesia más austral del mundo en toda la denominación. Dios les dio un ministerio fructífero, con muchos convertidos, familias transformadas por la gracia del Señor, y varios jóvenes llamados al ministerio. En 1976, Mario y Ana fueron ordenados juntos al ministerio. Ese mismo año, la familia Zani, con dos hijos -Fabiana y Christian- se mudaron a Estados Unidos para continuar sus estudios ministeriales, servir en Publicaciones Internacionales (Casa Nazarena), plantar la obra hispana en College Church, en Olathe, KS, y completar diez años de preparación que incluyó la licenciatura en Educación Cristiana para Ana; y la licenciatura, la maestría en divinidades y el doctorado en ministerio del Nazarene Theological Seminary para Mario. En 1986, la familia Zani, entonces con tres hijos (se agregó Louis, nacido en Olathe, KS) fue enviada al campo misionero para servir en y desde Guatemala, en la que entonces era Región México-América Central. En ese lugar sirvieron como misioneros, educadores, coordinadores de educación teológica para toda la región y en el ministerio de la mujer. En 1992, Mario fue electo para servir como director regional. Uno de los énfasis sobresalientes de su ministerio fue la plantación de muchas iglesias y nuevos distritos.
Después de 13 años de vivir en Guatemala, Mario y Ana regresaron a Kansas. Mario para servir como profesor del Nazarene Theological Seminary (escuela de misiones) y junto a Ana, como copastores de la Primera Iglesia del Nazareno de Kansas City, KS. Previo a tomar esta última iglesia como copastores, plantaron la obra hispana en la Iglesia del Nazareno, en Lenexa Central. El énfasis central en la plantación de iglesias fue la preparación de líderes, incluyendo el llamado y la preparación de pastores.
Mario y Ana, una vez más, fueron invitados a servir como misioneros. Esta vez, en Argentina y Chile. Estuvieron allí casi cuatro años, cuando recibieron la invitación a coordinar la obra hispana en el Distrito de Oregón-Pacífico. Aceptaron y vieron, junto a un excelente grupo de líderes, cómo surgió la obra hispana con una escuela ministerial, y veinte congregaciones e iglesias que fueron plantadas hasta el tiempo de su jubilación siete años más tarde.
Desde el año 2014 y por seis años, ya jubilados, Mario y Ana –después de regresar a Kansas— pastorearon la congregación hispana de Lenexa Central, dejando desde agosto del 2020 a los pastores David y Tabita González al frente de esa obra. Durante estos años y con la dirección del Dr. Sam Barber, senior pastor de Lenexa Central, Mario coordinó el inicio de la obra brasileña y africana. También, Mario sirvió como “Faculty Advisor” en el programa doctoral de Nazarene Theological Seminary, en registro y como maestro en la educación teológica en línea (ENTE), en entrenamientos de plantación de iglesias (como Senior Master Trainer del DCPI), y como coordinador multicultural de literatura para la Región de US-Canadá. En el tiempo actual, Mario y Perla siguen traduciendo, editando y enseñando. Sobre todo, y en estos años, disfrutan de sus dos nietos que viven en la misma ciudad y con los que tienen mucha interacción.
En las palabras de Ana y Mario: “Estos son los últimos años de nuestras vidas. Hemos disfrutado este camino de aventuras de la fe en el Señor. Seguiremos invirtiendo las experiencias, conocimientos y aprovechando las oportunidades que Dios desee darnos para servirle en las formas que Él quiera. El Señor que nos llamó, nos ha cuidado y nos permite seguir ministrando en este tiempo. ¡Para la gloria de Él!”
