Session 1: Getting Grounded: Foundational Knowledge
This session will present a biblical/theological framework for understanding gender and sexuality, show how these have become essential parts of identity, and discuss important biopsychosocial aspects of gender/sexual identity.
Session 2: Being Intentional in Ministry: The Way of Holy Love
This session will provide a model of being intentional in ministry with gender/sexual minorities through safety, relationships, and discipleship with the guiding principle of walking the way of holy love.
Session 3: Loving People Well: Pastoral Care and Counseling
This session will explore practical ways of providing good care and counsel to gender/sexual minorities, their families, and the local church community with topics such as preaching topics, what to do when someone comes out, managing family dynamics, and fostering grace to self.
Presenter: Dr. Janet Dean
Dr. Janet B. Dean is a professor of psychology at Asbury University (Wilmore, KY), having earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at The Ohio State University and her masters of divinity degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. As an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, she is actively involved in her local church. Her husband, Kevin, a retired U.S. Navy Chaplain, continues to be her primary cheerleader; they have two adult sons, Jonathan and Rowan.
